The 'Anton Bruun' (named for the distinguished Danish scientist who did so much to start the International Program) has been in the Indian Ocean for about one year now, to carry out the U.S. Biological Program. Many scientists from many U.S. and foreign organizations have so far taken part in cruises on board the ship. Strange writing was carved on the columns and nearby, sonar detected strange lumps on the otherwise level bottom, indicative of possible building ruins. Menzies, from the research ship Anton Bruun, stated that the find suggested evidence of a sunken city, as reported in the New York Times, Ap

He appeared with walking stick and pension book, and wearing a slightly disreputable tweed jacket, in anticipation of times to come, one supposes.

Anton Bruun subsequently continued her oceanographic voyages until During that year, while laid up for repairs in a floating drydock, the ship suffered extensive damage when the drydock sank unexpectedly.

Anton Bruun was slated to be transferred to the Indian government. Restoration, in view of the apparent damage suffered in the drydock Builder: Bath Iron Works. On Octo the oceanographic ship R/V Anton Bruun was working off Callao, Peru in the Pacific Ocean over the Milne-Edwards Deep of the Peru-Chile Trench system.

The cruise reports provide the basic data from the 11 cruises of the Bruun that were part of the U.S. Program in Biology that contributed to the International Indian Ocean Expedition.

At hours on 12 September (day } the research vessel ENDEAVOR departed Woods Hole for a 22 day cruise to study the physical, chemical, and biological structure of warm core ring D.

The specimen was not formally documented until now. Identification was based on comparisons and morphological descriptions in Compagno (). This specimen is housed in the research collections Douglas J. Long of the Department of Ichthyology, California Academy of Sciences (CAS.

The object of the cruise, on the research vessel Anton Bruun, was to study distribution and collect samples of fish from shore depths to the bottom of the Peruvian Trench (6, meters).

Ex- tensive collections were made at San Felix Island and Juan Fernan- dez Islands, several hundred miles off. Cruise Report, Research Vessel "Anton Bruun," Cru June Box 1 of 8. Reviews of Research Proposals and Other Applications, (5 folders) Scientific Equipment and Book Fund, Box 2 of 8.

Renamed Anton Bruun, in honor of the noted Danish marine biologist, the ship made 10 scientific cruises in the Indian Ocean, conducting broad sample studies of bottom, midwater, and surface life. She caught specimens of plankton; did. Anton Dohrn, Anton Dohrn was given to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in June for local-area scientific work.

The vessel made at least 40 cruises from the Gulf of Maine to the coast of New Jersey, testing bathythermographs, underwater cameras, and other newly designed instruments, and conducting underwater sound transmission experiments and harbor studies.
